The Supplier Quality Engineer will work on the manufacturing team and be responsible for improving the manufacturing processes and outputs for all of Formlabs’ products.

The Job:

  • Responsible for managing Tier 1, 2 and 3 supplier quality throughout the product life-cycle: new product development, deployment, operations execution and sustaining engineering. 
  • Key contributor in supplier selection in the design and development phase as well as the operations execution phase to ensure that the supplier's current and future capabilities are in place to meet needed business requirements. 
  • Manage the relationship with sub-tier suppliers to  maintain,improve, optimize and validate  production quality through regular detailed supplier process evaluations
  • Implement a continuous improvement program with the suppliers ensuring critical to quality product specifications are addressed through critical process controls and effective detection methods. Perform hands-on root cause analysis of production issues and quality excursions, optimizing processes on the production floors. 
  • Drive problem solving analysis (8Ds) with suppliers, properly driving corrective and preventive action involving process and detection methods. 
  • Organize the processing and improvement of material issues found during incoming inspection and production, driving corrective actions with suppliers and improving sub tier supplier processes and outgoing inspection detection methods. 
  • Responsible for ensuring that suppliers’ products meet technical requirements and standards specified by the Engineering team for quality, safety, consistency and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop a supplier evaluation program; measuring supplier’s performance versus expectations, areas of needed improvement and tracking their development. 
  • Collaborate with Engineering team to:
    • Develop raw material/subcomponent standards, product FMEAs, and testing plans. 
    • Devise testing / control methods and procedures when needed.
    • Deliver above procedures and requirements to suppliers, getting consensus and drive the suppliers to set up Quality Control Plans accordingly. 
    • Finalize the technical and quality agreements with suppliers accordingly.
  • Responsible for technical communication and risk identification of NPI projects of suppliers:
    • Act as a leading engineer to drive overall quality system development, quality control tool development to deliver scalable products.
    • Review product/process design documentations and specification documentations (Drawings and ECOs) to ensure alignment with process capability changes and yield targets.
    • Assess supplier’s production readiness to support build events and production ramp. Identify potential execution issues and provide recommendations to mitigate risk 
    • Present timely, concise reports or plan for product yield performance, specification convergence status: drive Failure Analyses, Corrective Action Implementation plans, and yield bridge to mass production

You:

  • BS/MS degree / 5+ years working experience in direct quality management of EMS manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to drive vendors in quality improvement
  • Able to work independently and hands-on to solve problems on the production floor and drive concrete improvement measures.
  • Experience in supplier management of structural parts or working experience in the structural parts industry (sheet metal, machining, mold forming, etc.) is preferred
  • Able to read and understand electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and geometric tolerancing.
  • Able to positively interact and collaborate with a diverse group of people domestically and internationally at all levels and disciplines
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills; strong cross functional collaboration and problem solving skills 
  • Technical knowledge in electromechanical systems, robotics and additive manufacturing technologies will be a plus 
  • Good knowledge and experience in quality management system and quality control tools (e.g. FMEA, Statistical Process Control, Six Sigma, 5S, and Kaizen) will be a plus
  • Able to work as factory ME for the first 3 months of boarding
  • Able to travel 50% of the time.
