The Product Architect for our North Carolina location will work with a team that develops 3D printing printers, processes, and software for new and existing Formlabs printers. In this role you will bring cross-functional teams together and use engineering fundamentals to negotiate and deliver optimized solutions that meet the product attribute targets.

The Job:

  • In this role you’ll be responsible for R&D covering the full range of technologies which go into building a 3D printer: from sensors and control loops to print engine software. Scope of work for 3D print process development includes modeling, physics simulations, coding, experiment design, data analysis, and physical prototyping.
  • Mentor and cultivate a team of internal resources and lead cross-department communication
  • You’ll also work closely with multiple engineering disciplines and will be responsible for driving the engineering to design convergence. This will require you to have an understanding of mechanical and software processes
  • Part of the role will require you to create highly functional physical prototypes and lead teams in their development and testing
  • Understand the company’s business and product goals and translate complex requirements into functional technical solutions
  • Identify relevant new and existing technologies Formlabs can practically apply
  • Accountable for success of all technically oriented project and program initiatives
  • Opportunity for growth into management


  • 5+ years, post graduation, developing key technologies that develop into products.
  • Robust understanding of the engineering and design development process for large, complex products in a multi-disciplinary organization
  • Experience supporting virtual builds, physical prototype builds, and pre-series production
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with the ability to clearly and accurately explain technical issues
