The Optical and Thermal Systems team at Formlabs is responsible for designing and integrating core hardware systems across our 3D printer and accessory product lines. Our work directly impacts the performance and reliability of some of the most critical hardware blocks, allowing our customers to bring their ideas to life.

As a Hardware Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to work directly on the critical hardware of the 3D printing systems and associated accessory products. You’ll have the ability to work across multiple domains, taking a first principles approach to find solutions to complex problems. Your goal will be to ensure that our 3D printers print high-quality objects quickly, accurately, and reliably.

The Job:

  • Develop core hardware, working with cross-functional teams to bring 3D printing technologies from concept to production
  • Create experiments to show proof of concept for new designs
  • Communicate technology and cost tradeoffs for various options of different subsystems
  • Supplier development for enabling technologies
  • Keep up with emerging technologies that can be leveraged for 3D printing

You:

  • Are a multi-disciplinary engineer or scientist with working knowledge across many engineering disciplines (e.g., physics, EE, MechE, optics, thermals)
  • Can transform a vague concept into a testable piece of hardware
  • Work in simulation space as well as in a lab with real hardware
  • Think outside the box and come up with novel solutions to challenging problems
  • Are an expert communicator who can articulate technical information verbally and on paper concisely
  • Keep meticulous written records of ideas and experiments
